Overview
Back in 2022, I was exploring the idea of creating a web app that would allow me to visualize my Spotify listening history. I wanted to create a simple, easy-to-use tool that would allow me to see my listening habits over time without having to use the wait for the annual Spotify Wrapped at the end of the year.

Process
I revisited the project again in 2024 to improve the design and add a few new features. I handled both the design and engineering of the experience, focusing on how Spotify listening data could be turned into something more memorable than a standard dashboard.
From there, I designed the track view around a set of animated vinyl cards. On desktop, the tracks sit inside a horizontal scroll container with active states driven by intersection behavior

Each card contains the album artwork, a vinyl layer, track ranking, artist info, and a play/pause control. When a track is playing, the card visually changes state: the vinyl spins and the album artwork shifts. The goal was to make playback feel visible, not just function
Outcome
Spotify State became a focused project that demonstrates how I approach product UI: start with a familiar user need, then push the interaction model until it feels more distinctive.
It also gave me a chance to explore how personal data can feel more emotional when the interface is designed around the object the data represents, in this case, music.
Although the project is no longer live, you can try out a demo here.
